Marlene Sample has been in the publishing business for over 30 years. She and her husband, George, own several newspapers and shoppers throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire and New York. State College Magazine and Pennsylvania Business Central were acquired by the Sample Media group in 2007. These two publications, along with The Bargain Sheet,are housed in the newly-acquired Vallamont Building, located at 1001 University Drive.

Marlene is the President of the Sample Media group as well as Publisher of State College Magazine. As a 1973 grad, she is loyal to all that is “Penn State Proud.” Marlene loves golf and the beach, but most of all, spending time with  her daughter, Morgan.

Jennifer Zeigler joined SCM in January 2010, having worked on various magazine staffs since 1996. A graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, she has most recently taught journalism at Penn State University. Her freelance work has appeared in Canvas and Eating Well magazines and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

When not editing or teaching, she leads a Junior Girl Scout troop, gets her nails dirty in the garden and enjoys the outdoors with her husband and their pooch.

D.K. Higgins, a devout “magazine hack,” has been writing for SCM since the summer of 2000. A former musician, playwright and grill cook, Higgins has also been teaching a scriptwriting class at Penn State since 2001.

Chris is a life long resident of Central Pennsylvania. He graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology with a degree in Graphic Design. He joined the Sample Media staff in 2001 which purchased State College Magazine in 2008. Chris enjoys watching and playing sports and following Penn State Athletics.

Matt has been with Sample Media since 2002, joining State College Magazine in December of 2007 during the transition to the magazine’s current incarnation. His love of classic design and eye for contemporary trends mesh perfectly with the culture of State College Magazine. Out of the office Matt enjoys friends, playing music and skiing.

Aimee, a graduate of Penn State University, has been with State College Magazine since May of 2006. First as an intern during her junior year at PSU and second as a full-time designer upon graduation. When not at work or bartending at a local establishment, Aimee enjoys snowboarding, painting and traveling.

Sandy joined the staff of State College Magazine in late 2004, bringing 14 years of print sales experience with her. Working with her clients to meet their marketing needs in creative ways, while staying within their budgets, has always been her focus. Sandy enjoys motorcycling with her husband and watching her two adult children spread their wings

Shelly has been an Account Executive for SCM since August 2005. It has been truly wonderful to meet so many great people and have to opportunity to contribute to the success of so many businesses. I am the Chef Coordinator for Chefs on Stage,  proud volunteer for The Clare Fund, and The Second Mile Charity Auction. I have a strong passion for photography and spend my free time enjoying my daughter and her passion for horses.

Corinna joined Sample Media in 2006. She enjoys working with her clients, creating effective advertising within their budgets. When not working, she volunteers for the March of Dimes and plays an active role in her three children’s activities.
