Flatware and bath accessories are still on many lists, but some
couples are also opting for less traditional registries.

Creating a bridal registry can be one of the most enjoyable parts of wedding planning. It’s a chance for the couple to work together to choose the things they hope will populate their first home.

Whether you register online with a large national chain or head to a favorite local store for your registry needs, the sky’s the limit on what you can ask for. Traditionalists may still register for flatware and china, while other couples may head to the local do-it-yourself store for things on their list. (Be sure to inquire whether your favorite local boutique has a registry, too.)

Once you’ve decided where to register, then comes the fun part—deciding what you want. Whether you’re still living in your parents’ homes, or have been out on your own for a while, chances are your belongings, and that of your fiancee, don’t quite paint the picture of a well organized, well-stocked home. To take you from your current inventory of mom and dad’s castoffs, garage sale finds, and dollar store specials to a home even Martha would be proud of, make sure you cover these basics:
