Saving Ideas |
| They
say the average wedding costs around $20,000 these days. In these
uncertain economic times, many folks are looking for ways to cut
costs without sacrificing quality. With that in mind, we offer these
10 suggestions for ways to save in a lot of different aspects of
your wedding budget. Shaving off a little here and there can really
add up! |
- Cut down on
liquor costs by buying your own liquor, beer and wine and hiring
your own bartender (if the reception hall allows for this) or by having a
cash bar. A modified cash bar is also possible. Either have beer and wine
for free, and charge for mixed drinks, or have an open bar for a shorter
period of time.
- Have an hors
d’oeuvre and dessert reception instead of a full dinner.
- Borrow your
dress, or order a bridesmaid’s gown. Surprisingly, many bridesmaid’s
gowns come in white.
- Get
married on Friday, Sunday or a weekday. You will almost certainly
get a cheaper hall rental, and may also save on prices of services
such as a photographer
or disc jockey.
- Do
your own invitations on the computer. There are many nice, affordable
printing
software programs available. Plus, it’s often a fun project for the couple
to do together.
- If you prefer
live music to a band, look for a local band where the performers
have day jobs. You will be surprised at the talent available.
- Rent a luxury
car for the day instead of a limo. Most rental car agencies rent
luxury cars, and they are often much cheaper.
- Have your florist
add wedding tulle and flowers to a headband or barrette in order
to save on a bridal headpiece.
- Where possible,
deliver invitations personally rather than through the mail. This
could be done easily for co-workers, neighbors, and church members.
- For
the photographer, ask if you can buy a “ceremony only” package.
The photographer would take all of the formal pictures of the couple,
wedding party and family and the ceremony. Many people will be
taking pictures at the reception anyway, and you can always ask
a friend or relative to take pictures for you or simply borrow
negatives from guests who took pictures.
