Variety is the Spice of Autumn

In recent years, one fall flavor has seemed to reign supreme over seasonal sips and snacks. But we’d like to leave pumpkin spices where they belong — in a pie — and return to the varied autumnal accents available at local stores.

For a perfectly decadent — and local — pairing, try W.C. Clarke’s The Cheese Shop’s collab with Chocolates by Leopold. The Sumatran Espresso Bars ($4.99) pack a pick-me-up punch.
Sure, autumn is all about apples, but don’t forget their cousin, the lovely pear. Tait Farm Foods’ Pear Butter ($7.50) with a hint of ginger gives the classic fall fruit a run for its money.

Cider made from local apples is 100 percent delicious and decidedly a fall flavor, but why stop there? Way Fruit Farm’s Apple Cider Donuts ($0.70) bake the season right into a sweet treat.
There’s more than one squash that can steal the show, especially in pasta form. Fasta & Ravioli Co’s Butternut Squash Ravioli ($9.75) combine the savory vegetable with cinnamon, nutmeg and ricotta.
