Battle of the Minds

A puzzling night of trivia supports CVIM
Samantha Lauriello

Do you know which planet in our solar system has the longest day? If you answered Venus, where one day is equivalent to 243 days on Earth, the 10th Annual Battle of the Minds is the event for you.

The Battle of the Minds is a mind-boggling night of trivia hosted by the Rotary Club of State College and Centre Volunteers in Medicine in support of CVIM’s wide range of services, including case management, medication assistance and a new mental health program.

The evening will kick off with a cocktail hour, giving guests time to bid on an array of prizes in the silent auction. There will also be an online auction available through the event.

Winners could take home a football signed by Head Coach James Franklin, a dining experience by Spats Cafe Chef Duke Gastiger and much more.

After an hour of sipping, bidding and chatting with friends who will later become competition, brain food will be served in preparation for the main event. Guests will be treated to a dinner featuring salmon and filet mignon.

“This isn’t just another rubber chicken dinner with neverending speeches,” says event director Sue Forster. “It’s a fun way for people to support the organization.”

Forster says when the trivia begins the night takes a competitive turn.

Year after year, medical organizations such as Mount Nittany Medical Center, Geisinger Health System and Penn State College of Medicine residents compete against one another for the gold. A number of other organizations are regular competitors as well, such as accounting firm Urish Popeck, which has won twice.

“I’m thankful to have an event that keeps the same people wanting to come back every year,” Forster says.

This year’s Battle of the Minds will take place on Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. For more information, visit
