A Green Month Indeed
Small thoughts can turn into big changes. In putting this issue together, I was amazed at the number of small steps we all have taken, and continue to take, in our individual lives that benefit the planet. Each of our staffers shared many more ideas than we had room for in the short piece on page 31, “This is How We Do It.”
The individual ideas shared for the article made me consider more ways that I too could be more sensitive to the environment. I hope it’ll get you thinking of new ideas, as well.
We’re also grateful for the contribution of two Bloomsburg University professors, David Minderhout and Andrea Frantz, whose article “10 Things You Should Know About Pennsylvania’s Native Americans” appears on page 16. The timing was perfect for the article since on April 18 and 19 at Mount Nittany Middle School, the 6th Annual The New Faces of An Ancient People Traditional American Indian Powwow will take place. If you haven’t gone to this free event, I encourage you to take time to stop by this year. It is not just entertaining; it’s also incredibly compelling and educational. The buzzwords of today’s green-minded culture—earth-friendly, environmentally safe and so forth—are not new to Native American tribes and cultures; they have held sacred what the Earth provides for thousands of years.
