A two-night festival of adrenaline-laced movies is swooping into State College to tell tales of active lives and extreme endeavors. Hosted by the Sierra Club Moshannon Group at the State College High School South Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, and Monday, April 27, the festival features picturesque cinematography of remote landscapes, thought-provoking insight into environmental issues, and breathtaking footage of adventurers pushing the limits of extreme sports in remote locations around the world.
Each of the 12 movies was chosen either as an award-winner or an audience favorite from more than 300 films featured at the 33rd Annual Banff Mountain Film Festival. In Journey to the Center, three Americans travel to China to BASE-jump a giant cave nicknamed “The Heavenly Pit.” In Red Gold, a proposed mine in Alaska gives rise to environmental concerns over the potential harm it will do to the Bristol Bay salmon population. And Papiroflexia tells the story of a skillful paper folder who shapes the world with his hands.
